School History

On September 3, 1980, Holy Family Regional School (HFRS) opened its doors welcoming 128 students from the supporting parishes of St. Andrew and St. Irenaeus. Over the next 13 years, the HFRS student population grew to 562 students and the supporting parishes expanded to include St. Mary of the Hills and St. John Fisher Chapel. A waiting list for student enrollment grew with each passing year.

In December of 1999, the Archdiocese of Detroit Board of Consultors approved the construction of a state-of-the-art facility to house HFRS students in grades 4 – 8. The South Campus would be built on the grounds donated by St. Mary of the Hills Church on John R Road in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Also approved was a major renovation plan for the existing North Campus, which would house students in kindergarten through grade 3.

The dream to provide Catholic school education for a greater number of students in the Rochester area became a reality when Holy Family Regional School proudly opened as one school, one administration, one faculty and staff, one student body, and two campuses on August 30, 2001. Sacred Heart of the Hills became the fifth supporting parish. Today, HFRS has over 850 students, 110 staff members and is the largest elementary school in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Holy Family students are educated in a traditional classroom setting with much of today’s current technology intertwined. Teachers engage their students using SMARTboards and Chromebooks and follow the guidelines provided by the Archdiocese of Detroit School Office and standards set by the State of Michigan. In addition to the comprehensive core curriculum, students have religion daily and attend Mass. Special classes include art, computer, library, music, physical education and Spanish.

Teacher assistants are present in every classroom at our North Campus. We are proud to offer academic enrichment programs to meet the needs of our students. We have continued to grow and respond to the needs of our families by offering before and after care and as well as a Young 5 program. Holy Family has the privilege of participating in the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Detroit, and we currently offer 12 different sports to students in grades 4-8.

Parent volunteers are the heart of our school. The HFRS community is loving and welcoming, more like a family, a place where lifelong friendships are made. With love, confidence and pride, HFRS proclaims that “Jesus Christ is the Reason for Holy Family Regional School.”
