Our Story
Holy Family Regional School was born from a shared vision — that every child deserves an exceptional Catholic education rooted in faith, community, and academic excellence. On September 3, 1980, our doors opened for the first time, welcoming 128 eager students from the founding parishes of St. Andrew and St. Irenaeus. It was the beginning of something truly extraordinary.
Word spread quickly. Families throughout the Rochester area recognized the gift of a Holy Family education, and our community grew rapidly. Within 13 years, enrollment had soared to 562 students, with the addition of St. Mary of the Hills and St. John Fisher Chapel as supporting parishes. Waiting lists formed — a testament to the deep trust families placed in our mission.
Guided by faith and a bold commitment to serve more students, the Archdiocese of Detroit Board of Consultors approved an ambitious expansion in December of 1999. A state-of-the-art South Campus would rise on land generously donated by St. Mary of the Hills Church on John R Road in Rochester Hills — while our beloved North Campus would undergo a major renovation to better serve our youngest learners. On August 30, 2001, the dream became reality. Holy Family Regional School reopened as one school, one administration, one faculty and staff, one student body — and two thriving campuses. Sacred Heart of the Hills proudly joined as our fifth supporting parish.
Today, Holy Family Regional School stands as the largest elementary school in the Archdiocese of Detroit, home to over 850 students and 110 dedicated staff members. Our growth is not simply a matter of numbers — it is a reflection of God's grace and the enduring dedication of our families, faculty, and parish communities.
Inside our classrooms, students experience the best of both tradition and innovation. Teachers engage and inspire using SMARTboards and Chromebooks, following the rigorous guidelines of the Archdiocese of Detroit School Office and the standards of the State of Michigan. At the heart of every school day is our Catholic faith — students receive religion instruction daily and gather together to celebrate Mass, ensuring that Christ remains at the center of all we do.
Beyond the core curriculum, students are enriched through art, computer, library, music, physical education, and Spanish. Teacher assistants are present in every North Campus classroom, ensuring that every child receives the individual attention they deserve. For our youngest learners, our Young 5 program offers a nurturing, faith-filled foundation that sets the stage for a lifetime of learning.
Holy Family students are also proud members of the Catholic Youth Organization of the Archdiocese of Detroit, with 12 sports available to students in grades 4–8 — fostering teamwork, sportsmanship, and the values of servant leadership both on and off the field.
At the heart of it all are our families. Parent volunteers are the soul of Holy Family — their generosity, dedication, and spirit make our school a place where children don't just learn, they truly belong. Friendships forged in our hallways last a lifetime, and the bonds built within our community reflect the love of Christ in action.
With joy, gratitude, and unwavering pride, Holy Family Regional School proclaims what has always been — and will always be — our greatest truth:
"Jesus Christ is the Reason for Holy Family Regional School."
